The 2005 National Capital DanceSport Championship

Canberra, Australia - 25th and 26th June 2005

This Championship, run by the Federal Association Teachers of Dancing (FATD), is located in Australia's Capital, Canberra. Canberra is uniquely located between Australia's two largest cities Sydney and Melbourne on Australia's eastern seaboard.

This is where the Australian Federal Government resides.

The National Capital DanceSport Championship - 25th and 26th June 2005 - has grown in stature over the years and is now considered by many to be second only to the Australian Championships held in Melbourne during December each year.

The NCDC provides two very full days of events covering Standard, Latin and Australia's third dance style, New Vogue. The Saturday program commenced at 8.50am and ran non stop until 11.30pm. This comprised of over 130 individual events. The Sunday program had less events, 80, but these were the open Amateur and Professional. Sunday also progressed non stop until 11.00pm,

Approximately 400 couples took part in this years Championship with dances from all states of  Australia and New Zealand. There were even a couple of entries from the Philippines and Japan.

Both Saturday and Sunday nights featured a floorshow by Michael Wentik and Tebogo. This is the first public performance for this couple and they captured the crowds attention with their African style. View photos of their performance at www.ballroomrhythms.com/ncdc2005/ncdc05.htm

Apart from the Amateur and Professional Titles to be won there was also the selection of Australia's Representative for the IDSF World Ten Dance. This selection event took place on the Saturday and current IDSF World Ten Dance Finalists, Adam Blakey & Meagen Alderton won the right to represent Australia for 2005.

Congratulations have to go to both Bob Steele and David Gunasekera for their expertise in organizing. This event is not just timed down to the minute, it runs that way.
